St. Catherine of Siena
St. Catherine of Siena is a true daughter of St. Dominic,
who founded this great order in order to learn, promote,
and defend the fullness of truth in the Catholic Church.
She is the patroness and spiritual mother to the Third Order
Dominicans. The motto of the Dominican Order is “Truth.”
In her Dominican environment, St. Catherine was driven to
know truth and to live it in her daily life, even from
childhood. In her boundless charity, especially for the
Church, she labored endlessly to encourage others to do
likewise.
To know the truth is to know things as they are. To live the
truth is to be what one had been designed to be, by the
wise and fatherly Creator.
Although St. Catherine was intensely involved in both
human and divine spheres of activity, her dedication to
truth enabled her to be at one with herself, with God, and
with neighbor. Revealed truth and natural truth cannot be
in conflict with one another, for truth cannot be in conflict
with itself.
It is in this framework of truth that Catherine’s words are
best understood and applied to one’s own life. The
introduction of God’s words into her own learning, living,
and preaching, especially through her Dialogue, follows the
pattern of her life – gathering and disseminating truth, for
the purpose of living it.

vacation the collection drops. But our expenses do not
drop, but instead go up.
The Blessed Sacrament
THIS IS MY BODY – THIS IS MY BLOOD
Can You Watch One Hour With Me?
A Holy Hour is simply an hour set-aside totally for the Lord;
an hour consecrated to God. It is a time to recollect our
mind, heart and spirit in order to focus them on God and
more specifically our Eucharistic Lord. To make a Holy
Hour is to make a decision to spend one hour with our
friend, our Savior and Lord who is truly present in the
Blessed Sacrament of the altar.
Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Hour
The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic
worship. Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love. Let
us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in
adoration and in contemplation, that is full of faith, and
ready to make reparation for the great faults and crimes of
the world. May our adoration never cease.
– John Paul II, 1960
To sign up for adoration or for information regarding
adoration please contact Diane Cieslak 703.678.3919.
Holy Hour is at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
24 hour Eucharistic Adoration is every Wednesday and
every First Friday, beginning after the 9:00 a.m. Mass and
ending the following morning just before the 9:00 a.m.
Mass.

Please Do Not Park on the Grass
It is damaging to the asphalt, as well as
our grass, when latecomers to Mass
park in non-designated spaces. It is
also a violation of posted Fire Lanes. If
you see someone doing this, please
remind them, as we do not want to
resort to towing the offenders.

the faith of those You have called and will continue to call.
We ask this through Christ, Your Son. Amen.

Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for July 2008
General:
That there may be an increase in the
number of those who volunteer to serve
the Christian community with generous
and prompt availability.
Mission:
That World Youth Day in Sydney,
Australia, may kindle the fire of divine love
in numerous young people and render

Apostles’ Creed
The Apostles’ Creed is the epitome of Christian doctrine.
In twelve articles, it contains the truths taught by the
apostles. It has existed essentially since the second
century and was first referred to in the fourth century. The
earliest text dates from the eighth century. Developed by
early Church councils, it was adopted in its present form in
the eleventh century. Since the early centuries of the
Western Church, catechumens were required to learn and
recite it before Baptism.
I believe in God, the Father almighty
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day, he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Nicene Creed
The Nicene Creed was a response to the Arian heresy,
which denied the divinity of Christ. It takes its name from
Nicaea, city of an ecumenical council in A.D. 325.
Subsequent to the meeting in Nicea, the original creed
underwent some changes at meetings in Constantinople in
381 and Chalcedon in 450. The Nicene Creed is the only
Christian creed accepted in common as authoritative by the
Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and major Protestant
Churches.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and
glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
